Taste Not Midtown Restaurant Tour

This is my brief sample of flourishing restaurants in Midtown. I'm extremely interested in the local food movement and love diving into it. The piece evolved into an experience more than a simple description solely on taste.

The portions in between visiting the restaurant are meant to be both fun and contemplative, replicating a walk to your favorite restaurant.

If you haven't tried some of these restaurants - I highly consider it.

Hope you enjoy - now go eat!

  1. I'm caught between really liking the piece, and hating how hungry it made me. The description choices for each location were well done, and gave the listener a nice taste of the atmosphere and food, without ruining it for those who haven't been.

  2. With this piece, eateries become more than just places to fill your stomach. They become an experience. I think you very accurately described and captured the "feel" that each restaurant strives to provide it's customers and blended it with enough personal experience to make your audience take your word as a well informed friend.

  3. This piece really captured the feeling of Midtown and it definitely made me hungry. It was fun to stand outside of the restaurants and confuse the people eating inside. I think this idea could be taken even further, maybe recording your actual eating experience and conversation.

  4. You piece was truly a tour of Midtown eateries! The descriptions were thorough, yet concise, and super mouthwatering. I enjoyed how it was recorded from a much more personal perspective, rather than just reading off each restaurant's menu.

    Thanks!!

  5. Wow, Erin this piece was just rude. Talking to us about delicious food but then we didn't get to eat anything!?
No, just kidding, it was really well made with great information, descriptions, and sound effects! I could totally see Midtown using this at some point! (The only downside was the whole lame vegetarian thing...)

  6. This piece was such an interesting perspective as well as great information. It was so personal and at times it was as if we were in the restaurant with you saying, "thank you, have a nice day." Well spoken as well as good descriptions, definitely made me hungry, good job!!

  7. Your audio really made me hungry. Actually, I think it made all of us hungry. You made everything sound so delectable that sometimes I think you are tempting me to just go in a buy something. I really liked how you used music to set the mood for each restaurant. It really made it feel like I was in your shoes sitting inside and having something to eat. I haven't eaten at any of the places you've taken us too but they all sound very good. One of the things that would give your audio more potential would be more use imagery like describing smells or the people that go there and so on. But other than that I really liked how you made it personal that it made the experience really enjoyable.

  8. This piece was so enjoyable. Since I don't often go to midtown or eat at the locations there I had two very satisfying results from this audio tour, one I got to learn about the food that was served at each place and I got to look at the amazing unique architecture each restaurant has. To receive the full effect of the piece, which I knew was liking to occur from the brainstorming of your piece you shared in class, I refrained from eating the chips I had brought with me until after your piece. In the end, your piece succeeded wonderfully and I ate all my chips through the next tour.

  9. I haven't been to midtown before but the places your piece brought us to were very appealing going by just your words, which makes me want to check these places out. I loved your wording when you were describing the foods, made me wish we could have a bite of the dishes you ordered. Very nice piece.

  10. This piece gave me a lot of information and introduced the restaurants style and food varieties. I want to have to taste the food in the restaurants after the audio tour. The piece was interesting and attractive.

  11. What I appreciated the most about your work was the bridge you created between narration and the sounds of the incorporated restaurants. It was a nice touch to hear the background sounds of the restaurants fade out as you began to speak about the meal before you; not only was this a nice feature, but it also caught the attention of a participant as the crisp narration came through, reeling them back into the audio as opposed to the space.

  12. Other than making me want to ditch the class and run to Sup for that soup you described, this audio was super informative. I've never really explored that side of town before but your descriptive words about the food definitely convinced me!

  13. Totally effective. We were all salivating by the first stop. Great little tour of some of what Midtown has to offer. Your descriptions were a great meld between literal desciptions as well as some of the emotions good food can envoke. Nicely done.

  14. You had me at tzatziki... But seriously, all of your wonderful descriptions made me want to get in line for some grub. I particularlry liked this tour because I was able to finally get a closer look at these restaurants that I drive by, but never have a chance to stop and check out. Also, your choice of music was excellent; it really set a nice, easy going mood for us to explore food with.

    But what a tease! ;P
